The Rilwan & Yameen Foundation is one of the three main programs at ADM. The Rilwan & Yameen Foundation is dedicated to Ahmed Rilwan Abdulla, forcefully disappeared in August 2014 and Yameen Rasheed, murdered at his home in April 2017. Ahmed Rilwan was a journalist, blogger and a popular Twitter personality and Yameen Rasheed, his close friend, was an IT expert by profession and a popular blogger and Twitter personality. Both Rilwan and Yameen wrote and spoke about socio-political issues and the rights of the vulnerable.
The Rilwan & Yameen Foundation will highlight issues related to the freedom of expression, education and awareness of civil and political rights and civic responsibilities.
Purpose
The main objective of the Foundation is to ensure justice for Rilwan and Yameen, and to make efforts to ensure that no one must face the violence that Rilwan, Yameen and their families have faced.
The Foundation will, through awareness raising and advocacy, contribute to enhancing the media and journalism and promote the right to freedom of expression. The Foundation will work with the Justice Institute of ADM to assist victims of persecution, harassment and threats for their expression.
