The Justice Institute is one of the main programs at ADM. The Justice Institute highlights issues related to the rule of law, prevention of torture, fair trials and transitional justice and other civil and political rights among the objectives of the organisation.
The establishment of the Justice Institute aims to harmonise research, advocacy and activism around these issues in addition to assisting survivors and victims of injustice in the Maldives.
Purpose
The main objective of the Justice Institute is to strengthen the criminal justice system by promoting and protecting the rule of law in the Maldives. ADM will monitor and make recommendations to bills, laws and policies that affect the administration of justice. The program will include fair trial monitoring, commenting on proposed legislation, and engaging with the UN’s human rights mechanisms to support the country’s obligations under international conventions and treaties the Maldivian Government is a signatory.
